The Helsinki University Eye Hospital provides an educational experience in basic ophthalmology for medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, in postgraduate teaching for over 20 resident doctors, and in continuous medical education for its staff and ophthalmologists across Finland.

The Helsinki University Eye Hospital is involved daily in research on all subspecialties of ophthalmology, including basic and clinical science of the cornea and ocular surface, cataract, vitreoretinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, ophthalmic genetics and pathology, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, and other relevant research areas.
